Movie Date Ideas

One of the most popular outings amongst couples is the movie date.

Simple, inexpensive, relaxing and entertaining, going to the movies is a common Saturday night practice and easy to do no matter where you are, since there's a theater in almost every town.

And, while going to see new releases and summer blockbusters never gets old, there are a few ways to spice up the date to make the trip seem a little less mundane.

An easy way to alter the average movie date is to catch a flick at an unusual time of day.

Most couples tend to go to the theater on Friday or Saturday nights, but seeing a movie on a Sunday afternoon or Tuesday evening makes it seem a little less ordinary.

Many theaters also run shows in the morning and offer discounts as not many people usually attend such early screenings.

Instead of lying in bed on a Saturday morning, get up and go on the movie date in your most comfortable pajamas.

Sneak in some breakfast treats, such as individual cartons of orange juice and Pop Tarts, and enjoy the latest release while munching.

It's unlikely that many other people will be in the theater so early, so if you're lucky, you and your partner can discuss the film as you would on your couch at home.

Rather than seeing the latest release on the movie date, why not see an old classic?

Many theaters screen an older film once a day, week or month.

Check out your local theater listings to find out when older films are running.

Even if you've seen a movie like Goodfellas or Raiders of the Lost Ark, it will seem different on the big movie screen compared to your television.

Screenings like these tend to be popular though, so be sure to check with the theater in advance and buy tickets ahead of time.

If you're looking to make the date a little more unique, head to your local independent theater.

Many towns and cities have small theaters that show indie flicks and less mainstream films or documentaries.

If your town doesn't have a small, independent theater, keep your eye out for documentary showings at area high schools or auditoriums.

Most of the time, movies at a small theater or town auditorium are a lot less expensive than chain theaters, so you'll have some extra money left over for some fun activities later in the night.

Looking for something more original than a movie date?

See the latest release at an unusual time, like earlier in the morning or on a Wednesday evening, for a more private experience.

Check to see if your local theater is playing classic films and see your favorite movie in a whole new light on the big screen.

Instead of seeing the latest blockbuster, go to an independent theater to see a documentary or indie flick.
