One cheap date idea is to watch the sunset together. When your date is expecting a fun, romantic date, but you are all out of cash, there are still plenty of things to do. This is every bit as romantic as dates that cost a lot more, but the sun, for now, is free. 
There are a number of ways that you can make watching the sunset into a full evening’s date. The sunset can be the culmination of the date. Planning an outdoor picnic at a park or even in a backyard can be the event that leads into watching the sunset. You might also try finding a romantic spot to watch the sunset and then retreating home to watch a movie together. This cheap date requires nothing more than minimal transportation costs and perhaps a movie rental fee. And, relaxing in front of the setting sun may put your date in a very romantic mood. Though watching the sunset together is a cheap date idea, there are a few things you can bring along to make it more comfortable.
A nice, soft blanket is a must for this type of date. You should also have something to drink for your date even if you're not eating your meal outdoors. This can be nothing more than bottled water, or it can be champagne. Bringing a citronella candle is also a thoughtful touch for keeping the mosquitoes away. If you’d like to have music playing during the sunset, bring a portable radio or CD player and set it up on the blanket. Classical music or whatever type of music your date prefers will be a nice touch to keep the mood light. If it's a first date, having music playing can relieve some of the pressure to talk.
You can both simply sit and listen to the music and watch the setting sun. Watching the sunset is something that your date will probably not be expecting.
